Oswald Mandus, a wealthy industrialist and butcher, awakens in his London home, wracked with fever and haunted by visions of a dark, infernal engine. He has no memory of what has happened.

All he knows is that his children, Edwin and Enoch, are in grave danger. He hears their cries from deep below… from within the heart of a monstrous machine he himself has created.
