Graveyard Keeper: Build, Bury, Profit
Welcome to the most inaccurate medieval cemetery management sim of all time.
In Graveyard Keeper, you don’t play as a hero saving the world. You are a regular guy from modern times who wakes up in a medieval fantasy world and is tasked with running the local churchyard. To get home to your love, you must build a thriving business, navigate a complex bureaucratic web, and keep the local Bishop happy.
Developed by Lazy Bear Games, this title takes the cozy farming simulation genre and twists it into a dark, capitalist nightmare. It asks the tough questions: Why buy expensive fertilizer when you have perfectly good bone dust? Why let good meat go to waste just because it came from a corpse? And is it really a crime to dump a body in the river if you’re running out of space?
Capitalism with a Corpse
-
Manage the Dead: Your primary job is to process the bodies delivered by a communist donkey. Dig graves, craft headstones, and ensure the cemetery rating stays high to earn money from the church.
-
Ethical Flexibility: You need money to survive. Should you give the bodies a proper burial? or should you extract the blood to sell to a vampire, remove the fat to make candles, and sell the… other meat to the local tavern for their burgers? The choice is yours.
-
The Talking Skull: You aren’t alone. Your guide is Gerry, an amnesiac, alcoholic talking skull who teaches you the finer points of necromancy and bureaucracy.
Crafting and Alchemy
-
Massive Tech Tree: Unlock hundreds of technologies. Build intricate workstations for woodworking, stone carving, and metalworking to upgrade your church and graveyard.
-
Complex Alchemy: Gather herbs, mushrooms, and body parts to brew potions. Create embalming fluids to preserve bodies, or health potions to survive your trips into the dungeon.
-
Writing and Theology: Write sermons to perform at the church. Different sermons grant different buffs and income levels, depending on the faith of your congregation.
Dungeons and Zombies
-
Dungeon Crawling: The tunnels under the church are filled with monsters and loot. clear the floors to find rare alchemy ingredients and uncover the secrets of the previous keeper.
-
The Resurrection: Why do all the work yourself? Once you master the dark arts, you can reanimate corpses to do your bidding. Create a workforce of zombie loggers, miners, and porters to automate your resource gathering.
