Rust: Survive at All Costs

The only aim in Rust is to survive. Everything wants you dead – the island’s wildlife and other inhabitants, the environment, exposure, starvation, and thirst. And most of all… other players. Do whatever it takes to last another night.

Dropped naked and alone on a mysterious, hostile island with nothing but a rock and a torch, you must overcome struggles such as hunger, thirst, and cold. Build a fire. Build a shelter. Hunt animals for meat. Protect yourself from other players, and kill them for meat and resources. Create alliances with other players and form a town, or prey on the weak and take their spoils.

Brutal, Unforgiving Survival

Rust offers no tutorials, no help, and no mercy. You must learn to survive through trial and error (mostly error). Manage your basic needs, protect yourself from radiation and hostile animals, and constantly watch your back. Death means losing everything you’re carrying.

Gather, Craft, Build

Start by smashing rocks and chopping trees. Gather resources to craft tools, weapons, clothing, and eventually, the materials to build your own base. Design and construct anything from a hidden wooden shack to a sprawling, heavily fortified metal compound. Your base is your sanctuary – protect it fiercely.

Kill or Be Killed: The Player Threat

In the world of Rust, other players are the most dangerous variable. Form alliances, build communities, engage in trade… or embrace the bandit life. Trust is a rare and fragile commodity. Expect betrayal, raids, and constant conflict. Kill on sight is often the safest bet.

Raid and Defend

Protecting your base and your hard-earned loot is paramount. Craft defenses, set traps, and arm yourself to fend off raiders. Conversely, gather explosives, plan your assault, and breach enemy bases to steal their resources and assert your dominance. The cycle of building and destruction is core to the Rust experience.
